We’re so aware that in just a few days or weeks, we will have to bid goodbye to summer and then set out to another wardrobe. Nonetheless, it is still a few days and weeks and so, it’s not yet the end. Talk about skimpy shorts, bright swimwear and tank tops and talk about your fab body.

There’s still time for you to get things covered and so with losing a good two pounds in a week, you’ll be able to drive to the nearest beach and show off your body.

Here are but some of noteworthy reminders and pointers to keep in mind when trying to achieve the body that you’ve always dreamed of:
• Aiming on a beautiful belly and a strong butt will get you off the hook. Yes, your arms may have the flabs but take note that a lot of attention and detail are focused on your belly and your butt. Your butt, having the biggest set of muscles should be well-clothed and embraced by your bikini. Nothing comes worse when the public is challenged with a saggy bikini-bottomed buttock. This said, take extra care and priority in working out both parts.
One good investment is to do the modified crunches. Do this by lying straight on your back, bend your knees and position your feet flat on the floor. Now, lift your hips and align your body in such a way that the shoulders and the knees are in a straight position. Alternately lift your right and left knee as if you were marching in place.

You will notice that each time you do this, your muscles in your buttocks contract. Do this workout for at least fifteen minutes three times a day and at the very least, three times in one week. At the end of the week, you will not only feel gratified but definitely, more muscular and ready for the beach.

• Make that firm commitment, that grim determination to remind yourself that you need to engage in a full-body training program at least three or four times in one week in order to boost your body’s metabolism to facilitate faster and more effective burning of calories. There are several workout regimens to choose from. If you are the type of person who easily gives up, a trainer or an exercise buddy will surely help you out.

• As always, you will need to drink plenty of water if you really want to succeed in this undertaking. Remember that you will be undergoing strenuous exercises and you do not have that liberty of dehydrating yourself.

Furthermore, when you are dehydrated, your performance, the capacity to burn the needed calories as well as your stamina will greatly be affected. And so, drinking plenty of water especially if you are the type who sweats a lot is really critical.

Speaking of water, you also have to understand that drinking other types of fluids besides water will also have an impact on your body. For instance, if you choose to drink beverages that are heavily laden with caffeine or sugar, you may suffer dehydration from the former and you’ll have to endure problems with spiking sugar levels and calories with the latter. At the same time, most experts would also discourage an individual to drink alcoholic beverages.

Apart from the risk of suffering from dehydration, you don’t want to put your exercises to waste because of the caloric levels of alcohol. Add to that is the possibility that instead of exercising the next day, you’ll just be nursing a hangover. So instead of alcohol, coffee and processed fruit juices and colas, go for the more natural and helpful fluids or if you may, diuretics. Go for green tea, lemonade or just a squeeze of lemon or orange in your water is already okay.

• Clear your cupboard and refrigerator of anything that is refined, processed and starchy. These include but definitely not limited to white pasta, cookies, biscuits, white bread and crackers. Apart from the sodium that you do not necessarily need (you get sodium from a lot of other food), there are several preservatives and additives mixed in such food items. Instead, to feel fuller, you can just gorge on vegetables and fruits.

In the end, it’s really about making the right food (and drink) choices. Apart from that, in order for you to fit on your best swimsuit, you have to exercise and have that time to rest and sleep. Good luck and don’t forget to have fun!

To lose a pound (0.5kg) of fat you need to burn off about 3,500 calories in excess of your normal weight maintenance needs. So to lose a pound of fat via, say, brisk walking, you would need to do around 10 hours of walking.

I always say that if u you can lose half a pound of body fat a week through exercise, you are doing well. That would translate into seven 40-minute walking sessions at 240 calories each, which is broadly similar to the UK Chief Medical Officer’s recommendation that, while five 30-minute sessions a week will ‘contribute substantially to weight management’, that ‘in many people, and in the absence of reduction in energy intake, 45-60 minutes of activity each day may be needed.’

However, Pittsburgh study found that women who exercised moderately for 21/2 hours a week lost nearly as much weight over time as the group the women who exercised for 5 hours a week at high intensity.

Despite these slightly different conclusions, it seems apparent that in the battle against surplus weight, it is regular moderate exercise that achieves better results than intensive bursts of exercise.

One of the studies from Maastricht University in Holland, found that people who do a weekly intense session at the gym end up expending less energy over the course of week than people who regularly do moderate exercise such as walking or cycling. Adding extra activity into your daily life in the form of non-formal exercise will also help create an energy deficit.

The exercise equation is also altered by other factors, such as how much you eat, how many weight you want to lose, starting weight and so on.

Also remember, if you are unfit, you need to start gently and build up gradually. Ten or fifteen minutes most days of the week. As a start, for example, would be more sensible than starting straight away at the higher levels and would certainly be preferable to doing one or two long sessions a week.

It has always been said that you are what you eat. These days, there is no denying about the alarming fact that a whole lot, a significant chunk of what we eat these days are refined, processed and are generally unhealthy and possibly harmful to our bodies. In saying, it is but sound and logical to say that when we eat these junks, we become junks ourselves. Now, we try to scrutinize a handful of information that would show facts concerning the scary truth about GMO or Genetically Modified Organism.

Fact Number One
Crops that are considered GMOs cannot thrive without the aid of chemicals such as insecticides, pesticides and herbicides. Contrary to beliefs advocated by some, GMOs require the use of chemicals in order to be profitably marketed. Examples of such are the daily products we subsist on, such as corn, soy and canola.

What’s worse is that there are even studies that show farmers using herbicides twice, thrice or even four times as much as how farmers usually use the said artificial products. Yes, for some time, our crops and anything that we eat may be resistant to insects, bugs and the like but we all know that mutation of the said organisms is not impossible. Take a closer look at the idea of superbugs. In time when everything is no longer controlled, farmers and consumers would have to deal with crops that are heavily laden with chemicals that the human body may not be able to adjust to.

Fact Number Two
Genetic engineering is indeed different from traditional breeding. People who say that both are the same are either fools or are actually are the people advocating for genetic engineering. The truth is, genetic engineering was borne out of an option that is offered in lieu of traditional breeding. And when you choose either of the two, you will have to accept the fact that both has advantages and disadvantages. The sad part is that the risks may not be something that you expected.

According to studies made, genetically engineered products have led to a host of diseases. These concrete evidence have been accounted for in different numerous studies.

Fact Number Three
There are ongoing researches about GMO, lots of them perhaps but the thing is, there seems to be no concrete proof or scientific evidence that shows that GMOs do not harm the public or the environment. The simple but frank truth about GMOs is that there is no existing long-term study to support or back up all the claims that say that GMOs will indeed do anything good to our bodies.

Conversely, if we look at field evidence as well as those that are reported by laboratory researches, we will see a trend that backs up the idea that on a short-term basis, because of GMO, we are now peppered with problems on soil damage, contamination of crops, destruction of beneficial insects and other similar problems and concerns.

To put things into context, we should be informed that even the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Agriculture do not outstandingly acknowledged that our bioengineered foods are actually safe. No rule or regulation is in fact in place, to support GMOs present in the market.

Fact Number Four
GMOs do not exactly equate to nutritious and better-tasting food. If you consider GMOs, there is simply no guarantee that what you are buying for you and your family is indeed healthy and better-tasting. The truth is that you buy GMOs because you want the assurance that what you are eating has withstood chemicals, insects and the like.

Finally, let us not fool ourselves into convincing that nothing is wrong with GMOs. Anything that is altered, modified or changed, making it significantly different from its original state has to be re-examined and re-evaluated. We should not wait for the threat to take effect in its full and most potent force. Instead, we should take those valuable proactive steps to protect not only ourselves but our families.

For a years researchers have been telling us that it is the total time over the course of, say, a week, that counts in helping you to lose weight and/or get fit, rather than the length if individual sessions.

A study at Loughborough University found three 10-minute sessions of brisk walking a day, five days a week, achieved the same rates of calorie burn and fitness levels as five half-hour walks a week.

But some new researches seem to indicate otherwise. The Pittsburgh women found a little difference in results between differing lengths and frequencies of sessions. One study at the University Of Glamorgan in 2005 found that students who did two sets of repetitions of exercises gained no significant weight or fitness advantage over those who did just one set (halving their total workout time). And another study by the American College Of Sports Medicine has found that 30 minutes of high intensity (80% max) work is as good as hour at 60%. Other research at St Thomas’s Hospital London agrees that moderate; long duration activity is not the best way to go.

More research needs to be done – but meanwhile, the fact remains that the majority of studies still concur that you either have to put in short, frequent amounts of activity or longer, less frequent ones burn enough calories to lose weight – and that some activities burn more calories in the same space of time than others.

A lot of us feel overwhelmed and disappointed with weight problems especially with the very obvious belly fats and love handles that we have to adjust to each and everyday. Thankfully, there are cardio workouts that we can enjoy leisurely while busting those calories and melting those fats away.

Consistency is one of the key to be considered successful in this kind of project and so, when you’re able to pick from the list that follows, always make the effort to adhere to your regimen.

So, after your regular exercises, here are the workouts you should include for a maximum of thirty minutes:

Walking Lunges. Position your hands just behind your head and make that giant step frontward. As you do this, lower your back knee downwards; then, bring the back leg upwards to the original position together with the forward leg. Repeat the exercise using the other leg.

Renegade Rows. Use dumbbells while making a push-up. Row one dumbbell one at a time but make sure that your hips are steady in place. After both dumbbells have been successfully raised, then, make a full push-up.

Burpees. Place your hands on your hips and then gradually squat until you feel your hands touching the floor. Gradually resume to your original position and then rev your feet towards your hands springing up in the air. Repeat. Note that gradually was the term specifically used because some have positional change problems and so, you have to assess yourself and your body.

Rebounding. Depending on your preference in using a trampoline or rebounder, you are guaranteed to lose at least 200 calories per half hour. Ascertain what makes you really overwhelmed. Do the side-to-side technique, front to back or the jumping jack.

Mountain Climbing. Imagine yourself as a mountain climber; your mountain would be the floor. Assume a push-up position. While nailing one knee just under your chest, the other limb gets ready to do the same. Alternately do this and see and feel for yourself if your heart rate really increases.

Squat Jumping. Position your hand behind your head and then squat until your thigh are already parallel to the floor. Once you get there, spring up in the air as high as you can and then land back to the floor in your original position. Make sure though that when you land, you do this as safely as you can. This is one of those times where the importance of the appropriate footwear is fully noted.

Of course, do not forget that cardiovascular workouts alone won’t make you successful, as much as possible, put a conscious effort in your diet as well as rest and sleep. And, do not forget the power of drinking at least eight glasses of water in a day.

Finally, it has been proven, time and again that having belly fats is a condition that is completely reversible. You have that option and choice of doing something about it. You need not fret or complain about such condition because you know very well that once you are already in control, you’ll be able to find that solution and hopefully, by then, you have already trained yourself to become the disciplined individual that you should be.

Anyone would agree that one of the best and most outstanding ways to lose belly fat is through cardio exercises. There are several cardiovascular workouts being introduced these days and you can actually choose from several options. The good thing is that for the most part, these cardio workouts can actually be done at home and anywhere else other than the gym.

Here are but some of the simple workouts one can do:

o Swimming – Tagged as one of the top exercises that an individual can be involved in, swimming does not only pound and work on the entire body, it also facilitates several other beneficial effects. The best thing about swimming is that it is ideal for those who love water and most especially, it is known to have low impact on the joints especially for those who suffer from joint pain or any kind of injury. Look at any swimmer and be amazed at how curvaceous his or her body is. The proof is there and who doesn’t want that?

o Brisk Walking or Jogging – If you are often late for work and you have to bustle your way through a crowd in a very busy street, you know that this practice still helps you because your heart rate increases, you perspire a lot and you feel energized all throughout the day. Without a doubt, brisk walking or jogging and even running for a good fifteen minutes twice a day is an intensive workout.

Remember though that for this type of workout to be effective, you have to cover a certain distance and that you should be able to achieve a certain duration on specific days or, if you wish, everyday. If you plan on engaging in jogging or brisk walking, make sure that you have the right gear to avoid any kind of injury or accident.

o Swimming will increase your heart rate and then increase your lung capacity. If you swim for at least twenty minutes, at least three times a week, you will surely reduce and, hopefully, eliminate those belly fats.

o Cycling – One can go for stationary cycling or just go out and enjoy the sun while roaming around the house or the neighborhood. Cycling can certainly be an intensive exercise especially if the ideal intensity and duration is sustained.

o Jumping Rope – With your rope and a small area for jumping, you can actually lose your belly fat. Your muscles contract while you jump. This especially applies to your abdominal muscles. The act of contraction as relaxation enables the facility of burning your accumulated fats in the abdominal and flank area. Jumping rope is also a good ab workout because your torso is stabilized as you jump into the air.

However, remember to keep your shoulders relaxed as much as possible. And then, if you are already getting the hang of it, try to spin the rope faster up to the point where you can no longer hop.

To wrap, everyone recognizes that stubborn accumulation of fats at one point in their lives except for the exceptionally gifted with fabulous bodies. Yet, if we choose the most appropriate cardio workout to lose the belly fats, we will surely enjoy the body that we want.

However, we should also recognize that this is not an overnight deal, it is a painstaking habit or hobby that we should undertake in order to achieve we want and sustain all the way through. Simply, persistence and hard work will facilitate the elimination of these unwanted and undesired fats.

But then again, always remember to talk to your doctor about your planned regimen especially if you are suffering from a particular health condition.

And by long lives, they enjoyed the full benefits of relatively living healthy free of the worst kinds of diseases today such as cancer and cardiovascular ailments.

In addition, our ancestors were able to conveniently work and live life without the hassle of nursing an illness or disease. These said, one reason for such is the paleo diet, a diet that is probably familiar for most people.

The diet in scrutiny takes advantage of one’s genes in order to live a long life, live a life that supports the ideal body weight and live a life that is strong and full of energy. With the Paleo, the proponents take advantage of the fact that a lot of what we eat these days have resulted in the proliferation of diseases such as Alzheimer’s, diabetes, infertility, Parkinson’s, apart from those earlier mentioned. These diseases are attributed to diets loaded with high amounts of sugar, transfats, refined goodies, synthetic ingredients and other similar additives.

Now, how do we about with this diet? And does it exactly help especially for a person who wants to lose unwanted weight?

Basically, Paleo is about an increased consumption of not only vitamins and minerals but anti-oxidants. To further exemplify, Paleo encourages seeds and nuts versus starches, fruits versus dairy products, vegetables versus grains, seafood versus legumes and very lean meat versus processed foods and those laden with high amounts of sugar.

Interestingly, Paleo recognizes that alcohol taken in moderation is perfectly fine and can be included in meals. In fact, studies have actually supported the fact that people during the olden times and one of the oldest people these days actually feast on alcohol in moderation. There’s this group found in the borders of Asia and Europe and there’s this group who we all know are the Japanese. The former drinks red wine and the latter enjoy sake or beer.

Zooming in, the protein sourced out from the lean meat products one consumes help in making us feel gratified over the course of the day and also prevents those hunger pangs that cause us to munch on whatever food we think of. Proteins also help in building and maintaining healthy bones, muscles and teeth.

On the other hand, veggies and fruits are so rich in vitamins and minerals which we are all familiar with, phytonutrients and anti-oxidants that combat the risk of having diabetes, cancer and other similar illnesses. Meanwhile, the healthy fats also do the same thing. Of course, it’s also about reducing the weight and preventing any buildup or accumulation of fatty and adipose tissues that also result in obesity.

Add everything together and one can come up with the Paleo diet that, as proven by studies combat the incidence of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and other ailments that attack our immune system.

When we speak of Paleo, it cannot be denied that such approach in dieting has been proven through the years. Most diet, fad diets in particular are only there, for, say two years but this diet speaks a record for itself. There were no alarming cases of obesity in the past and without a doubt, people in the past were really fit. The generation of today fare poorly when compared to how sexy, trim and lean people in the past were. So, if we are looking for a tried and tested solution, the Paleo diet is, without a doubt, a good choice.

Are you becoming more frustrated every single day because nothing you do somehow works on your body while some people you know can munch their way to eating greasy foods without actually gaining weight? Here, the baby food diet may actually be an option you can take.

What is the Baby Food Diet?

The controversial diet was popularized by Tracy Anderson, a fitness and diet guru for several prominent personalities. It works by consuming baby foods that are specifically placed inside small jars. This way, the consumption of calories by an individual is significantly counted and as a result, the dieter loses weight. While some would actually substitute all meals and snacks with an all-baby food, there are those who also benefit from substituting their meals or snacks, say, two meals in one day or morning or afternoon snacks.

How Does Baby Food Diet Work?

Using a basic grasp of counting calories, the dieter would have to substitute a meal or two or his snacks depending on the preference. The small size of the jars help in keeping the dieting concentrated with the most minimal number of calories as preferred by the dieter. Without a doubt portions are controlled.
Interestingly, most baby foods these days are tagged as organic and for the most part, the easily digestible pureed foods are mainly veggies, fruits and the lean portions of meat.

Does Baby Food Diet Safe?

By all means, most baby foods are generally safe and since we are dealing with baby foods, pesticides, insecticides and other sort of additives or synthetic ingredients are discouraged from being added in the foods.

What are Some Tips?
Here are some few reminders when trying out the baby food diet:
Always read the labels. Consider a reputable manufacturer as well as the distributor. You surely do not want any part of becoming a victim of unscrupulous bizmen.

Talk to your doctor before embarking on such diet. If you are relatively healthy, this won’t be a problem but if you suffer from chronic health conditions, this option is worth the thought.

Variety is the key and so if you choose the said diet; remember to eat a variety of foods to get the nutritive elements needed.

Some people have reported diarrhea when consuming the baby food, and so, you might want to think about this.

The texture and the flavor may not be as appealing. When encountering these problems, think of the outcome and you will surely be able to muster the courage and strength to eat the baby foods. But then again, you’ve been there and you’ve eaten such kinds of foods.

Are There Proofs?
Accordingly and as publicized, celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Stephanie Pratt and Lady Gaga are but some of the foolproof users and patrons of the Baby Food Diet; looking at their bodies would convince anyone that indeed, the diet is something worth considering.

Without a doubt, this is one of the reasons why several fad diets have been introduced over the years. Wouldn’t anyone just love a diet that holistically and effectively works on the body? Hopefully, this time around, the macrobiotic diet will be the soundest and most practical answer.

The Diet
The Macrobiotic Diet is a concept and idea developed through the years by numerous followers of a Japanese teacher, George Ohsawa who actively campaigned for simplicity in being the answer to achieve optimal health and overall well-being. In Greek, macrobiotic equates to long life.

The Benefits
A significant number of individuals follow the macrobiotic diet because of the incorporation of both physical and spiritual health. Mainly, it involves the consumption of foods that are rich in fiber but low in fats. Mostly, the dieter will need to eat veggies, whole grains and soy-based products.

As a result, people who take advantage of such diet, benefit by counteracting the possibility of cancer-causing agents. Since the diet is rich in phytoestrogen (found in soy products), problems like breast cancer and some other forms of cancer are prevented.

In the end, you don’t only achieve an ideal body weight and you don’t only combat illnesses, you also end up with a body that is cancer-free.

The Pointers
One noteworthy principle supported by the macrobiotic diet is the involvement of ten specific advancing stages. However, because of the restrictiveness of the diet, the supporters have figured that it would be more beneficial to make some adjustments and innovations to cater to everyone. Case in point is the last stage where the dieter will only be allowed to consume brown rice and water. These days however, we all know that this would be very difficult and will be unadvisable.

Here are but some of the few reminders when the macrobiotic diet is used:
 Soups like shoyu and miso are encouraged; consume one to two cups everyday.
 Whole grains are recommended and should be around sixty percent of your meal. This includes barley, whole wheat berries, brown rice and corn. Conversely, limit the intake of pasta, baked goodies and rolled oats.
 Veggies should make up thirty percent of your diet.
 You can indulge on whatever dessert you want so long as you use natural sweeteners like honey, carob and molasses.
 Take advantage of plant-based oils such as mustard seed oil, sesame, corn and almond.
 Consume as many fruits a possible although be wary about restrictions which are specifically stated by the ones who proposed the study.
 Seasonings as well as condiments are encouraged to add the kick and boost to one’s meals. These are seaweeds, sea salt umeboshi vinegars and brown rice vinegar.

A Forewarn
While some individuals push for the macrobiotic diet, it should be understood that the diet in itself may lack some of the very essential micronutrients needed by the body. These nutritive elements that might need compensation include Calcium, Vitamin B12, Protein, Magnesium and Iron.

The said plan has been dubbed as the South Beach Diet. And of course, as expected, the SBD is one diet a lot of people are looking into because of its potency and power to reduce weight and maintain a healthier body.

The Theory Behind

It is difficult for the public to adhere to diets that are low in fat since time immemorial and these diets are supposed to lower cholesterol levels as well as avoid heart ailments. Thus, Agatston and company took advantage of the glycemic index concept developed several years ago.

To simplify the concept, we are talking about loads of sugar entering the bloodstream. As a result, the pancreas gives out insulin with the sugar being absorbed by cells. Eventually, when these loads of sugar repeatedly enter the body and with the pancreas giving out more insulin, the sugar in the blood falls below limits and there and then, hunger pangs occur and diabetes may also result.

Realistically speaking, as insinuated by the proponents of the South Beach Diet, we see people who are constantly unable to pull out strictly adhering to a low-fat diet.

The Diet in Focus

It’s really about knowing identifying and deciphering the good carbohydrates versus the bad carbohydrates. SBD proposes the complete elimination of saturated fats as well as trans-fats. Instead of the two, Omega-3 fatty acid and unsaturated fats are encouraged as substitutes. A concrete example is to forego the fatty and greasy portions of poultry and red meat. Instead, go for nuts and the leaner portions of meat.

Interestingly, Agatston is a little lax in terms of alcohol intake. With the SBD, red wine is allowed. Additionally, lager or beer may also be consumed, any amount that is, in celebration of particular festival.

Another facet to the South Beach Diet is that it is subdivided into three specific phases. Each phase has specific conditions and requirements. The first stage happens for two weeks and this is where sugar, anything that is refined, everything that are processed and those known to have high glycemic indices are eliminated from one’s diet. As a result of this elimination, a significant figure is cut off from one’s weight.

For the stage two, veggies and fruits as well as some whole grains are again introduced and finally, for stage three, the concept here is about maintenance. And so, the dieter, by this time, should already be able to recognize and ascertain which goods are good or bad for him. Also, by this time, it is hoped and expected that the dieter is already keen about being able to instill discipline within himself.

The Foolproof

While some people may actually negatively react to the South Beach Diet, Agatston and other supporters of the study have actually found proofs and concrete evidence that the diet really works. In a research conducted for a one-year period from 1998 to 1999, it was found out that the 54 subjects responded positively. The same holds for a research made by Kraft Foods for 69 participants for roughly three months.

Ultimately, SBD is not only just about being able to lose the unwanted pounds, it is also about being able to maintain and sustain a healthy diet for the rest of one’s life, that is, also a life that is free from illnesses and diseases.
